you walk past the same frame house every single day for years
one day you walk past and the house is gone
in its place are smoking embers
you didn’t see the fire but you know there was one
the smoking embers, the heat in the air
its the effects that tell you the truth
and so it can be with memory of sexual abuse
the fire that burned me to the ground
some days i only know it from the embers
